Olympic-style boxing is one of the longest standing sports in the Olympic movement, having been contested in the Olympic Games since 1904. Since that time, the United States has won 109 medals in Olympic competition. The 2012 Olympic Games will make history as women’s boxing will be contested for the first time in three weight divisions. Male boxers compete in 10 weight divisions. Olympic-style boxing utilizes an electronic scoring system with five judges around the ring scoring the bout on computerized key pads. The bout can be won on points, by stoppage or on retirement.
